We started Term 2 with a flurry of colours, arts and culture with each class \u2018travelling\u2019 around the world to look at and explore different cultures. During PE all classes explored traditional music from their country’s culture, creating dances and freeze frames.<\/p>\n
Reception enjoyed discovering the Story of \u2018Rama and Sita\u2019 and understanding the celebration of Diwali, by making Divali lamps and acting out the story.<\/p>\n
Year 1 and 2 flew to Mexico where they tasted different Mexican foods such as Nachos, dips and salsas. They then used pastels to draw Mexican artefacts.<\/p>\n
Year 3 and 4 learnt about Anansi traditional folktales from Africa. They made shadow puppets and performed using these in a shadow theatre. The children also looked at the meanings of African masks and created their own.<\/p>\n
Year 5 and 6 learnt about New Zealand through the story \u2018Granny joined the All Blacks\u2019. They learnt the Hakka, made mala masks and wrote their own stories.<\/p>\n
We had a fantastic finish to our week when we spent the day with our Federation friends taking part in different workshops. All of the children were mixed up into six different groups with children from both Chiddingly and East Hoathly across all year groups.<\/p>\n
The children enjoyed workshops where they learnt, Chinese writing, Spanish songs and World War 1 songs. They also took part in African Drumming with Cheikh from \u2018Africa Arts Company\u2019 and Greek Drama with Mr Jonson. The children then created \u2018Natural Art\u2019 in groups using objects found on the playground.<\/p>\n
All the children and staff had a fantastic day and it was lovely to see so many parents celebrating with us at the end of the day.<\/p>\n
