The children came to school dressed up as scientists and inventors. They spent part of their day tackling the \u2018Squashed Tomato Challenge\u2019 which was based on a real life scenario in Nepal. The children had to think about how to transport tomatoes down a hill and over a river without spoiling any of them. The children had to work in teams to design and build their ideas, they were then given tomatoes to test these out!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3420\" src=\"https:\/\/pioneerfederation.co.uk\/chiddingly\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"255\" height=\"231\" \/>Some children even designed and made pulley systems for their tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">At the end of the session, the children were shown how Practical Action (scientists and engineers who use technology to challenge poverty in developing countries) solved this problem in real life. They saw how a pulley system based on weights enabled the villagers to become more efficient in their farming!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Throughout the day the children found out the skills needed to become engineers and about different engineers who designed and created objects and devices which help them in their every day lives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">A new \u2018Little Miss\u2019 book had been written to celebrate International Women\u2019s Day and British Science week called \u2018Little Miss Inventor\u2019 The children used this to create their own \u2018Little Inventor\u2019, their designs were fantastic!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3417\" src=\"https:\/\/pioneerfederation.co.uk\/chiddingly\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"915\" height=\"638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pioneerfederation.co.uk\/chiddingly\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/3-1.jpg 915w, https:\/\/pioneerfederation.co.uk\/chiddingly\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/3-1-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pioneerfederation.co.uk\/chiddingly\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/3-1-768x536.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 915px) 100vw, 915px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday 17th April the whole school took part in an exciting STEM day.
