Beech Forest School

Beech Class set off for their last Forest School session of the year in the woods. Once there we started with a game of eagle eye. With eagle eyes closed the children were given to the count to 10 to hide, when the eyes open again the class must all be hidden. Every time the eagle eyes are closed you must run in a tap the hand of the eagle. If however you don’t make it back to your hiding spot and you are spotted by the eagle then you are out.

Beech Class were able to practice the den building skills, they used a selection of natural materials that they worked together to transport across the woods to their chosen den location and some tarpaulins. When the dens were finished it was time to test how water tight they were. First all the children that had helped to build had to squeeze into the den, then cup loads of water were thrown on top of the den. It turns out that they were not that water tight as we ended up with some soggy children!

Using leaves some children chose to create some leaf printed pictures. They did this by sponging paint onto the back of their chosen leaf and then pushing in down onto some paper. When it was peeled off it left behind a print of the leaf. Some chose to be more creative by adding more than one colour to their leaf.

There is a damp ditch that runs down the boundary edge of our Forest school site, a group of children thought this would be the perfect place to go on a bug hunt. As they moved small logs and vegetation it wasn’t long before they started to find things. They found newts, a toad, many woodlice and a few spiders.
