Sycamore Forest School

Sycamore started their Forest School with a game of Eagle eye, with the teachers in the nest as the Eagles ready to catch out any child that did not make it back to their hiding spot quick enough.

A group of children helped to lay and light the fire ready for the whole class to cook themselves a pizza. Once the fire was going the children took it in turns to make their pizza and place it on the fire. These were gooey and slightly burnt but enjoyed by all.

Some children chose to create a leaf printed picture. First they chose themselves a leaf and paint was then added to the back of the leaf. Carefully they pressed the leaf down onto a piece of paper rubbing it all over before peeling it off to leave behind a print of the shape of the leaf showing all the veins.

A very hard working group of children took on the task of removing the old log store in preparation for a new log store build designed by the children of Sycamore. They started by removing the roof, pulling down the sides and finally lifting the rotten pallet floor. All of this was loaded into the trolley by the group and transported away. As more wood was removed the group spotted a grass snake and we watch it sliver away into the pond area.

The whole class was challenged to get themselves into groups and build a den as waterproof as possible using tarpaulins and any other materials they could find. Working together they chose a location and started their build, once they were happy with their den the entire team clambered inside ready for it to be tested with a bucket of water. Water was then thrown over the top, lots of the dens held up well and kept the kids dry, however when water was thrown in from the side we ended up with a lot of soggy children!

Forest School was finished with a game of spirit of the forest in the sunshine to try and dry of all the soggy Sycamore children.
