Hedgehogs Forest School

Hedgehogs set off for the first Forest School adventure as a class in the woods. They worked amazingly as a team to pull the trolley all the way to the wood. This is no easy task as the path they took was rather muddy in places! It took 3 children to pull and the rest of the class to push to make it through the mud.

Once in the woods the class were very keen to start exploring. They discovered a large den created by other children and decided to add their own materials. They worked together to carry long lengths of wood across the woods, this sometimes took four children to move one piece of wood.

Some chose to make a Christmas star decoration. They did this by first cutting five lengths of Willow using secateurs, then with a little bit of grown-up help they tied the sticks together creating their star shape. They were then able to use beads and thread them onto string to add as decoration to their star.

While exploring the woods some children chose to roll logs to see if they could find anything that may be living underneath. They came across Worms, Woodlice and some spider webs. While returning a Worm under a log someone shouted “a Frog”, there hiding in the fallen leaves was a small frog. The children watched at the Frog hopped to a nearby stump, up the stump and the wriggled itself under the bark.

The class again helped to push the trolley all the way back to school. It was a little trickier on the way back as the muddy part was uphill, this meant that there were a few children that slipped over into the mud. This did not bother the children, they looked at their muddy hands and wiped it on their faces “we are mud monster” they shouted as they made their way through more mud.
