Curriculum Programmes of Study/ Medium Term Plans

Pioneer Subject Leaders provide Medium Term Plans (MTPs) for each cohort to plan from. MTPs show the order of curriculum skills and lessons the children will experience.

Teachers work in federation cohort teams to plan the sequence of lessons for each term. Teachers then build upon these MTPs to plan more detailed weekly/individual lessons for each subject. The MTPs will also document how the individual and unique ‘Cultural Capacity’ of each school will be represented within the subject for the term.

Each lesson begins with a ‘reconnect’ session. This is a recap/review of the previous curriculum skills and knowledge linked to the lesson content, helping pupils anchor their previous knowledge for the present lesson.

Each MTP has clearly defined ‘end points’. The MTPs break down the content of the unit into manageable logically sequenced chunks to build towards these end points.

At the end of each subject unit there is an assessment of pupil knowledge gained through either self-assessment/evaluation or subject unit quizzes or both. This will provide evidence of pupil ‘recall of the knowledge’ taught and provides information for teachers to build on in the next unit. This information will then be built into future planning and will be monitored and tracked.
