At East Hoathly, pupil leadership roles are created to ensure that our students are making a highly-positive, tangible contribution to the life of the school and the wider community. Meaningful opportunities are developed and embedded for pupils to understand how to be responsible and respectful active citizens who contribute positively to society. Our Pupils Governors have a secondary role as RE Council. They are our role models for spreading our core values of ‘Love, Strength, Wisdom and Truth’ throughout the school.
The Pupil Governors play an active role in their bi-weekly meetings, taking notes on what is discussed and the decisions made. These notes are passed onto their classes where children can voice their opinions and hold whole class votes. Topics for deliberation are also put forward from classes to be discussed in the next governor meeting. Child’s voice is key in our school council meetings to provide the children with autonomy and ownership over their school experiences.
Within their RE council role, the Governors have ownership over our outdoor prayer space. They host daily discussions and activities at playtimes and lunchtimes about our school values, with an underlying termly thread. This term, our underlying thread is ‘Peace’. The RE council have been encouraging the children to discuss how they find peace, what brings them peace and how they can share peace with others.
Termly Meeting Update
Since February, the school governors have been working to hold a whole federation charity fundraising event. The Pupil Governors took three different charities to their respective classes and held a vote. The charities they voted for included- Baby2Baby, Chestnut Tree House & Raystede. Each class voted, and unanimously voted for Raystede. We are holding votes this term to determine our school and Federation events which will be taking place soon!
