Collective Worship at Stonegate
Collective worship is an important part of school life at Stonegate. Each day, we come together to reflect, pray, sing and think about the things that matter to us and to the wider world.
Our Christian vision, ‘Let Your Light Shine’ (Matthew 5:16), is at the heart of our worship. Through Bible stories, Christian teaching and our school values of Compassion, Respect, Courage and Trust, we encourage children to think about how they treat others and the difference they can make through their words and actions.
What Happens During Worship?
Our worship takes different forms throughout the week. We use stories, music, pictures, discussion and quiet reflection to explore Christian teaching and its relevance to everyday life. Our pupils are involved in our collective worship and often act out stories and help to lead.
We begin by lighting a candle as a reminder that Jesus is the light of the world. Children are given time to think about what they have heard and may be invited to respond through reflection or prayer.
Collective worship is inclusive and invitational. We welcome children and adults of all faiths and none. Everyone is encouraged to listen, reflect and take part in a way that is comfortable for them.
Our Church Community
We value our links with St Peter’s Church in Stonegate and enjoy gathering there for important occasions in the Christian calendar, including Harvest, Christmas and Easter. In addition, we are fortunate enough to welcome Reverend Andrew every week for engaging worship at school.
These services give children opportunities to take part in worship and bring our school, families and local community together.
Living Out Our Vision
We want the ideas explored during worship to make a difference beyond the time we spend together.
Children are encouraged to put our values into practice through kindness, honesty, helping others, standing up for what is right and taking care of the world around them.
Our hope is that collective worship gives everyone at Stonegate time to reflect on how we can let our light shine, both in school and in the wider community.
