Foxes Forest School

At the end of last term Foxes set off for a session of Forest School on the school grounds, when they arrived what they discovered was a rather overgrown fire circle full of very long grass. Some of the class worked together to pull out some of the grass whereas others started to cut their way through using scissors, well done Foxes!

The class were given a container of cream that they were challenged to shake as hard and fast as they could with the hope of making butter. Taking it in turns to shake the cream it wasn’t long before they had achieved this. The children were then able to try some of the butter of a cracker, this was enjoyed by all with many of the class wanting seconds.

The children took it in turns to go in small groups to see what was living within the waters of our school pond. Pulling their nets out of the water the children were able to investigate what they had managed to catch. What they had caught was placed into a tray to give the whole class a chance to look.

A team of children took it upon themselves to continue the Bramble clearance that they were doing in their previous session. They worked together to cut away the Brambles using secateurs, discovering many small trees growing that had become swamped by the Brambles.

Some of the class chose to practice their whittling skills to make a pencil form a length of Willow. They did this by using a knife to removing all the bark from their stick and then added a point to one end creating their pencil. Using wool they learnt how to do a whipping knot to add a soft handle decoration to their pencil. The children were then able to crush up charcoal and add a little water to make a black paste. That was used for drawing and writing. The children also used the black paste to add drawings and black hand prints to Dormouse’s jumper!
