Forest School Update 13th February

This term the children have been learning how to identify the poo belonging to many different animals found within the British countryside. They have done this by working together as a class to match pictures of animals with their matching poo. We then discussed as a class what they though their animal would eat to match the diets with the animals given.

Making our way to Forest School the children were asked to see if there was anything that they noticed within the woodland that was different from there last visit, something that is not normally out quite yet. The children all noticed that the Bluebells had started to grow, as a group we talked about why they may have come up early this year.

Exploring the woods the children found many different Fungi growing on the damp rotten wood, one went well with our poo theme as the class were convinced to start that was what they had found.

There were some very creative fairy houses made at the base of large Oak trees. The children gathered many different natural materials to use in their construction, they also left bird seed for the fairies to enjoy for dinner!

There has been some fantastic team work in the construction of dens while in the woods. They have worked together to come up with a design, gather natural materials and bring their design to life.

Woodland class have been practicing there use of hand tools. They worked hard with a hand saw to cut up all the fire wood gathered last summer ready for future fires. This can be a little tricky for small hands however the persevered until they had filled three boxes. They also learnt how to use a hand powered drill to make holes on a rotten log that they then filled with bird seed ready for the birds to enjoy.
