Foxes Forest School

Foxes set off on a beautiful sunny morning for an adventure in the woods, helping to carry all the equipment needed for their session. They stopped off along the way to climb the dinosaur tree, however it was a little tricky to find as it was a little overgrown!

Once in the woods the children were very keep to set off and start building. They had been challenged to work in teams to build themselves a den that was hopefully waterproof. The class decided to only have two teams boys vs girls! They worked well together to transport long tree trunks and branches to their chosen locations, they also used a tarpaulin and dead leafy vegetation from the woodland floor to help make it a water tight as possible. Once they were ready all team members squeezed inside the den and cups of water were thrown over the tops of the dens. Both dens held up really well and the children only got a little soggy.

The children dug a small hole in the mud, they then added a little water and giving it a good mix created a muddy clay. Using a pestle and mortar the children crushed up coloured chalk that they then added to the clay they had made creating different coloured clay to work with.

Using a tea light the class were able to take it in turns to roast a marshmallow that was then placed between two chocolate biscuits for them to enjoy.

Today’s session was finished with a game of eagle eye, they children took it in turns to be the eagle of the nest ready to spot and catch out their classmates.
