Hedgehogs set off in the spring sunshine to our Forest School site at the bottom of the school field. Sitting round the fire circle the class recapped of how to be safe when moving from one side of the fire circle to the other. They then had the opportunity to smell what we were going to be cooking to see if they could work out what it was, there were lots of screwed up faces as Wild Garlic is a bit stinky!
Once the fire was going some bread was toasted, a layer of garlic butter was then spread on the toast ready for the children to try. They were a little unsure at first but once one had tried some and said it was “yummy” then the rest of the class had a piece to try.
Setting off across the school field the children went on a spring scavenger hunt to see how many different signs of spring they could find. Working together and with their teacher they managed to find everything on their sheet.
There was a selection of bird teddies that joined the children at Forest School today. The children were able to gather their own natural materials to make nests for the birds and decorated stones to use as eggs that they placed inside the nests.
One child found an interesting shaped log within our Forest School site, they used their strength with the help of a teacher to move it to our bug hotel in the pond area. The rest of the class then got involved by adding there own items to the bug hotel. They started by adding bark that they had found as well as a selection on sticks they had gathered. A long stick was pushed in half way leaving the rest poking out of the hotel, they said it was to create a balcony for the bugs to watch the pond from.
This Friday, we had a ‘House Colour Day’ organised by our pupil governors. Everyone came into school wearing their house colour and spent the afternoon doing football activities in our house teams. Our Year 5s and 6s acted as our coaches, planning and running the different football stations for Hedgehogs, Squirrels and Foxes to practice their football skills. Owls then had a chance to go round the stations and give them a go themselves!
