Squirrels worked together to transport everything we needed down to our Forest School site on the school field. Arriving at our site the class sat around the fire circle to listen to what was available for them today. While this was being done a pot of cream was being passed around the circle for the children to shake as hard and fast as they could with the hope of turning the cream into butter. It wasn’t long before it was ready, the class then all had the opportunity to try some of the butter on a cracker.
The children came into the pond area in small groups to have a go at pond dipping to see what may be living in our school pond. They pushed their nests down under the water, moved them about a little before pulling them out to see what they had caught. Everything that was caught was placed into a tray so that the children could take a closer look and use an ID sheet to help them identify what they had found. They discovered that they found many Newts, Dragonfly Nymphs and a Great Diving Beetle.
Some children chose to have a go at whittling a piece of Willow. They did this by putting a glove on the hand that will be holding the piece of Willow and using a peeler they stripped all the bark off. The class did really well at this making sure they removed every bit of bark.
There were some great creations being cooked up in the mud kitchen, the children used many different natural materials that they gathered from the local area. These were then placed in saucepans with water and mud which finished of the yummy dish they had made.
Squirrels class has some great little climbers as many of the class spent time practicing their climbing skills.
