Squirrels class excitedly made their way down to the woods for their last Forest School session of the school year. As they walked along the woodland path they noticed that there was so much more greenery than the last time they were there. One child said “it’s like walking through a jungle! “Once in the woods the children helped to show the boundaries to a classmate that had never been to the woods. They then enjoyed a game of Eagle eye, making sure to run as fast as they could so not to get caught by the Eagle. Squirrels class were set the challenge of constructing the most waterproof den they could using tarpaulins and a selection of natural materials. They worked in teams to move long branches across the wood to their chosen den position. When the branches were in place the covered them in tarpaulins helping to make it more waterproof. Once finished they all climbed inside their den, water was then thrown over the top. We may need a little more building practice as we ended up with a few soggy children. Some children chose to crush up chalk in a pestle and mortar, they then added it to some clay like mud and water. This created different coloured sloppy clay that they used to paint the trees. Using a tea light the children took it in turns to roast a marshmallow, when it was nice and gooey it was placed between two biscuits ready to be enjoyed.
