Cherry Forest School

The children were given a pot of cream to shake on their way to Forest School, by shaking it well we should make butter. The class all tried really hard and with a little adult help we soon had butter. They class then had the opportunity to try some of the butter on a cracker, this went down very well, with many of the class wanting another.

We made our way quietly onto the Forest Way as we were hoping to hear the Nightingale that was heard by Maple class last week. Unfortunately we did not, but the children did stand quite for a minute with their eyes closed listening to the birds that they could hear.

Many of the class chose to have a go at making their own pencil from Willow. This was done by first putting a glove on their non writing hand, this hand would hold the piece of Willow. The children then had a peeler in the other hand that they used to remove all the bark from their stick. A point was then added making it perfect for drawing with. They children were then able to crush up some charcoal and add a little water creating a black paste that they could use to draw with. They used different coloured wool to add decoration to their new pencils.

The children also had the opportunity to make some Elder beads. This was done by using a palm drill to push out the pithy middle of the Elder, the children were than able to thread them onto a piece of wool to create a necklace.
