Park Mead 2024

Willows Forest School

Term 4 at Park Mead was all about wild garlic! The children had the chance to taste the leaves—some loved it, while others found it a little spicy. They enjoyed chopping the garlic and mixing it with butter, watching it turn green! We then toasted bread over the fire and spread it with the homemade garlic butter to make tasty garlic toast. While waiting, some of the children kept busy practising their fire-lighting skills.

We were also joined by some bird teddies at Forest School, which inspired lots of creative activities. The children collected natural materials to build their own bird nests, using sticks on the outside and softer materials inside to make them nice and cosy.

They then decorated stones to use as eggs, with some children using ID sheets to make their eggs look just like those of real birds.

Another fun activity was making binoculars. The children stuck two cardboard tubes together, added string so they could wear them, and decorated them with nature-inspired designs. Once finished, they headed off into the woods to see which birds they could spot.

There has also been lots of imaginative free play in the mud kitchen, as well as some fantastic den building. The older children even had a go at setting up the slackline themselves with adult supervision. They did brilliantly and remembered all the steps from previous sessions.
