Prayer Space

On Wednesday 19th October, we went up to church in our classes to enjoy some prayer spaces that Rev Julie and Kate (our new youth worker) had set up for us.

The focus was on the Lord’s Prayer and there was a station for each section of the prayer.

One of the stations was about forgiveness, linking with the part where we pray for forgiveness for our sins and help to forgive those who hurt us. Part of the activity was ‘Fizzy Forgiveness’ and the children used vitamin tablets in water to imagine their sins or the sins of others ‘fizzing away’ and being forgotten about.

They also drew round their hands and wrote something they are thankful for on each finger and enjoyed focusing on ‘give us our daily bread’ by thinking of all the food they are thankful for!

It was a really lovely time to reflect on the different parts of the Lord’s Prayer and why it is a great model prayer for us to learn.

A very big thank you to Rev Julie and Kate for all the time and effort they put into creating the stations.

Church Street Café

Church Street Community Café has returned with a new and exciting addition!

The café is open on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, between 2:00pm and 4:00pm and on the 3rd Thursday, the volunteers who run the event will be ably assisted by our fabulous Lilac Class!

Lilac Class students attended yesterday afternoon for their first session and quickly slotted in to the new role, serving behind the counter and interacting with café visitors.

Come and catch up with friends and enjoy being part of the Hartfield Community. All donations are being split between the upkeep of St Mary’s Church and other local charities and our main aim is to bring all ages of our community together.

Thank you to those of you who have already supported us and we would love to see new faces either before or after pick up. There are activities for the children, lots of cake and a healthy eating bowl.

Please check ‘dates for your diary’ for upcoming dates and we look forward to seeing you there.

Prayer Space Opening

On Friday 25th June, we all gathered outside the front of the school to officially open our beautiful new Prayer Space. The money for the prayer space was kindly donated by Rev Julie from the Church School Trust and Mr Gray (our Site Manager) built this incredible shelter for our whole school community to use as a space of reflection and prayer. Mrs Carpenter, with the help of some great designs from the children, painted the mural on the inside with a Psalm recognising the greatness of God along the ceiling. We are so thankful to so many people for contributing money and their time towards creating this wonderful space and invite you all to use it whenever you like!

Thank you so much to all those parents and members of our community who braved the rain to join us in pausing for a moment to appreciate this new space we are so thankful for.

Easter 2020

This week, we were all able to visit the HOPE lettering in the church yard in our bubbles to hang our prayers of hope on. It was a really special time to discuss what we are hopeful for this year and a lot of the children reflected on the hopes they have for COVID-19 reducing and enabling them to meet with their much missed friends and families. Rev Julie has also left some templates by the lettering so that friends from the congregation and village and also write a prayer to hang up, alongside all the children’s, so the whole community can be involved. This week, we also watched our virtual Easter Service which the whole school joined in with. We hope you enjoy it!

Remembrance 2020

On Wednesday 11th November, the whole school paused to visit the church grave yard and place crosses at a war memorial grave. The children, along with Rev Julie, went with their teachers to have a two-minute silence to  remember those who fought for peace and for the long-lasting peace we are fortunate enough to have in our country. Mr Gray also put a wreath on the memorial in the village with a message which some Year 6s wrote, in memory of the bravery and courage of the soldiers.

We linked Remembrance Day in with our value this term of Generosity and Willow Class thought about this during their Spiritual Journal time in school. They focused on how soldiers in WW1 and 2 showed generosity and bravery by fighting for us to be able to live in peace.

St. Mary’s School Nativity 2018

Superstar!

…that was the name of this year’s nativity and Superstars they were – all of them!  This lovely story about the true meaning of Christmas was told by the whole school, through song, actions and words.  To a packed church for both performances the children  demonstrated their ability to learn a lot of songs and words as well as their admirable confidence to perform in front of others.   We love this time of year and listening to the children joining in with every word we know they do too.  Do enjoy watching this film of the performances put together by our very willing parent volunteer Mr Martin – Lawrence – thank you!

Remembrance Week Walk to War Memorial

Today we each carried a cross, marked with the name of a victim of the war from Hartfield. The children amazed us with the respect and reverence they showed as they walked through the Churchyard, past some of the heroes’ graves stones, and then, led by James Castle, each laid a cross at the village War Memorial. The crosses have been left on display for us all this Remembrance weekend.

Harvest Service

t was lovely to see so many parents and friends of the school at our Harvest Service today.  Reverend Julie and Katrina led us in thanks and inspired us with the theme of generosity.  Thank you to all those who sent in harvest gifts.  Tony Cox from the East Grinstead foodbank came to talk to us all and let us know about the work that goes on there and how they are able to help so many local people in need.  The children sang beautifully throughout the service and we are all now going around with the ‘Harvest Samba’ in our heads!
