Welcome to the Pioneer Federation of Schools. We are an East Sussex Federation of small schools (NOR less than 130 per school). We have 8 schools at present and work as one to achieve the very best for all children and all communities. Through collaboration, we seek to build on the strengths that exist within our schools so that our collective intellectual capital benefits our broader Pioneer community.
We have 2 Clusters of four schools- Weald & Ashdown. We have clear succession planning built into Pioneer, with layers of leadership across the Federation. Each Cluster has a Lead Cluster Headteacher supporting the development of the Clusters of schools. There is a mixture of Headteachers and Heads of schools across the Pioneer schools. There is a Lead Pioneer SENCO who works across 6 of our schools and supports inclusion across the Federation. There are Phase Leaders, who manage the collaborative planning and curriculum. We also have Pioneer Subject Team leaders, who manage the development within the collaborative Pioneer curriculum and support Cluster subject leadership. In the future, there will also be a Pioneer Finance Lead, who will manage our combined budget.
We have a Federated Governing body, led by our Chair of Governors – Alan Brundle. Each Pioneer Cluster also has a Cluster Committee, led by Cluster Committee Co-Chairs.
We all aim to inspire our children to engage confidently with the world and develop the knowledge and skills from across the curriculum that enables them to thrive. By working as one, we maximise the federated collaborative knowledge and skills of all the adults in our schools. We share the very best practice and are reflective, learning from feedback and from the research that will make a difference to the progress and achievement of all children.
Pioneer Vision
‘Being the best that we can be in thriving communities and achieving fullness of life’
Pioneer Values
Ambition – Optimism – Resilience
Pioneer Ethos
‘Achievement for All, Learning Together, Learning for Life’
Pioneer is optimistic for the future, ambitious for all, and focused on building individual and collective resilience. We aim to support children in becoming confident and responsible citizens who contribute positively to society in a manner that maximises their strengths and helps build a better tomorrow.
At Pioneer, we are committed to establishing learning environments that not only stimulate and engage, but also engender a sense of purpose and identity.
Our schools are committed to providing a fully inclusive environment for learning that actively promotes social justice and equity, empowering all to achieve. We create cognitively challenging contexts for learning and build deep and rich knowledge, through adaptive and precise teaching approaches.
The collaborative Pioneer Curriculum is ambitious, challenging and creative, carefully sequencing knowledge so that children are supported in building a deep understanding across all subject areas. We believe in the importance of providing a high-quality experience that also builds health and well-being individually and collectively.
The Federation is a mixture of Community and Church Schools. We value and promote the ethos of each school, ensuring it is firmly at the heart of its community. Our Church Schools work closely with the Diocese of Chichester, under God’s rule and following the example of Jesus. In Matthew 19:26 & John 10:10, Jesus tells us He came to give us life in all its fullness and all things are possible with God, and we believe that we help give children the best start in their education by giving them the values, confidence & stepping stones they need to enjoy all the opportunities life has to offer. We believe that children live their best lives when they know that they are loved and are being loving; shown how to use their strengths so they can continuously work hard and strive for high achievements and are taught that being honest and living their lives by God’s example can lead to ‘life-long learning’ and positive change.
We aim to be the best we can possibly be for every community we serve and to realise the aspirations held for every young person who learns with us.
