As Maple class made their way to Forest School the children talked about the bone that they had found in the field the last time, hoping that it would still be there. It wasn’t long before they were able to find it again, they carried it all the way to Forest School and have taken pictures so that they can go back to school and work out what part of a Deer belongs to.
Making our way through some mud one child spotted an area in the hedge that was trampled down either side of the path, they went on to explain to their class that this was a path that Deer use all the time. Look-ing in the mud the children found lots of deer footprints to support what had been said.
Making our way a little further the class spotted a large area of ice in the field, taking a small detour off the path we all went to investigate. The children stomped and crunched their way across the ice. Picking large pieces of ice up the children noticed that the ice was all patterned and that some pieces had leaves and twigs frozen into them. They chose to try and carry some to Forest School, however it had all melted in their hands by the time they arrived!
Once in the woods the children sat around the fire circle to look at a variety of bones belonging to ani-mals from the British countryside. As a group we looked at each one and the children tried to guess what animal they thought it was. With a few clues they managed to work it out. The children then had the chance to hold and take a closer look at the bones, what the teeth looked like and how they felt.
